Reservation Please

One of the things that stuck out today for me was when it was said that the reason reservations were started in the first place was because it was less expensive at the time than simply killing all the Native Americans. What!?!?!? Are you kidding me?!?!?!? The president of the United States at the time wanted to slaughter the Native Americans, but bullets were so expensive that it became cost effective to simply place them on plots of land and leave them alone so that the American government wouldn't have to deal with "the problem".  That is so outrageous, and I can't believe that more people don't know about this atrocity.

  1. You've gotta wonder how the world would be today if the bullets hadn't been so expensive. If there was a sudden influx of lead and gunpowder, and they were able to make lots of bullets at much cheaper prices because of the sudden flooding of the market with supplies, I wonder if he would have chosen differently, and if the Native American race would even exist today. I mean, maybe they'd exist, but they would more than likely not be observed in the numbers that they are today. And they would have probably been Christianized and had no records of their history or their cultural and religious practices, and most of their family would be gone, so they'd probably suffer with severe depression for their whole lives. Just food for thought.
